EKKKKKKK! How to Control Spiders

Are you scared of spiders? You are not alone. Spiders are one of the most feared house pests, and when it comes to exterminating, a pest people want to get rid of fast! There are many phobias surrounding spiders, and we get it, they can pop up at the worst times and in the worst places. Below you’ll find a few things you need to know about pest control for spiders.
Don’t Expect Perfection
Chemicals tend to not be the most effective when it comes to spiders, nor do spiders readily pick up pesticides, so just spraying chemicals is not a great defense against them. Their long legs keep their bellies well above-ground, so insecticide will only touch their feet. Spiders don’t have a circulatory system that will carry the insecticide from the bottoms of their feet to the organs in their bodies, which prevents them from dying. They also don’t groom themselves with their mouths, like ants or cockroaches, and, because they spend most of their time in their webs, there isn’t much of a chance for them to come in contact with pesticides.
Control Their Food Sources
The best way to control a spider problem at home is to control their food sources around the house. Spiders eat other insects, so reducing the other insects around your home will reduce their food sources, making them less interested in hanging around. Most spiders tend to stick around light sources, which help them capture flying insects that are attracted to light. To get rid of these insects that spiders feed on, you can try a crack and crevice treatment that will help provide some control, and you can also use glue boards or sticky traps. If you have dogs, cats, or any other pets, be careful where you place these, and make sure your pets stay clear of these types of traps. Sticky traps or glue traps work well, mainly because when a spider sees a fly trapped in it, it’ll see it as an easy meal, and end up getting stuck in the trap with the bug it was trying to eat.
